Day 24: Bugging questions
Curiosity didn’t kill the writer (just the mother).
I have a five-year-old. “But why?” is something I hear A LOT.
Coming into parenthood, I expected this question, but I didn’t anticipate having so few answers, even to simple things.
Luckily for me, I don’t always need all the answers. The kid asks a lot, and fast, often forgetting the previous question.
However, some questions don’t go away. He asks them again and again, even when I’ve answered them. I try to change the answer. I elaborate. I find a new angle. I try reason, logic, and then turn to the absurd. “Yes, but why?” he insists.
It’s all maddening and endearing. And it’s also a great exercise.
Join me in the madness, why don’t you?
Prompt (pleasure, not homework 🙋♀️)
Think about a question that keeps showing up in your life (work or personal).
It could be deep — What is the purpose of meaning?
Or simple — Why do I always over-edit my posts?
Write about it. Explore it. Wonder about it.
And whenever you think you have the answer, try another “Yes, but why?”.
Rules (daily reminder):
☕ Pick a time to write and tie it to a ritual (morning coffee, evening tea).
⏱ Write for 25 minutes — no less. More only if you’re in the flow.
🎶 Music helps (here’s a clueless playlist).
🪑 Show up anyway. Even if you don’t feel like it, stay with the page. Write anything, doodle.
📓 Writing by hand can help you focus (any notebook will do).
✍️ Make it yours. If today’s theme doesn’t click, write about something else.
💌 Optional: Shrug & Send. Share your question publicly — no context, no answer. See who responds and how. And if they do, bug them with a “Yes, but why?” reply 😈
